A few weeks ago we reported on the Dean’s Facebook Page about the very generous donation by Caber Coffee when they sent two cases of Dean’s shortbread to  Warthog Group 2RTR, c/o Bastion, Afghanistan.  We have now had some pictures back from the troops who certainly looked happy to receive their gift.  It transpires the Dean’s Shortbread was sent because Major Cameron declared the troops really appreciate something sweet however, it was too warm to send chocolate!

This may explain why Dean’s have been doing so well with exports to warmer climates such as the Middle East and Spain.  You may recall our blog post in February after our trip to Gulfood in Dubai and in April after our trip to The Foodhall, at Salon del Gourmet in Madrid.  Overseas sales continue to increase and the Dean’s brand and reputation is growing all the time.

So, could shortbread be the new chocolate?
It certainly seemed to be a very acceptable substitute for Warthog Group 2RTR, let us know what you think.
