As 2014 draws to a close, we look back on some of the highlights of a very busy year for Dean’s.
As a company we take great pride in our workforce and continue to invest in staff training and development. We were therefore delighted to be awarded the bronze level ‘Investors in People’ accreditation back in February. It’s great to receive an award for which the whole team can be equally proud.
Our very popular café bistro and gift shop underwent a complete refurbishment during May. We also welcomed Wendy Hyett to our management team. Wendy and her staff work very hard to ensure visitors to our gift shop & café bistro have a great experience. Come and visit us if you haven’t already – a very warm welcome awaits you!
Back in June, Dean’s were among the sponsors for the second year, at the European Pipe Band Championships. Shortie came along too and wowed the crowds as he always does! It was a spectacular day out, with 117 pipe bands from around the world playing in the beautiful setting of Grant Park, Forres. We’re already looking forward to supporting the third and final staging of these Championships in Forres, in June 2015.
2014 has been a great sporting year for Scotland with both the Commonwealth Games and Ryder Cup placing Scotland on the world stage. Huntly was proud to welcome the Queen’s baton relay on the Aberdeenshire leg of its journey, with several local people chosen to proudly carry the baton through the streets of their town.
Despite it being one of the wettest Saturdays of the year, ‘Pipes in the Park’ rocked Huntly in August with a wealth of musical talent, including headline act The Red Hot Chilli Pipers. Dean’s were delighted to be one of the main sponsors of this great event, with the weather doing nothing to dampen the spirits of the thousands who turned out in wellies and raincoats to enjoy the music. Of course no ‘big day oot’ for Dean’s is complete without Shortie putting in an appearance – here he is enjoying the company of some of the girls from Huntly & District Pipe Band!
A wee bit further from home, Dean’s have attended a number of trade exhibitions around the world during 2014, including ISM Cologne, Foodex Tokyo and the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York. We also enjoyed our annual trip to the BBC Good Food Show in Birmingham, a great foodie extravaganza held at the NEC each November. Dean’s have sold bumper quantities of their products at this show for more than 15 years, and this year was no exception. A BIG thank you to everyone who came to try and buy our delicious products – we look forward to seeing you again next year!
With Christmas just around the corner, our hard working production staff are still busy mixing, baking and packing, ensuring everyone has their melt in the mouth shortbread and biscuits in time for the festive season. Despite a busy year in production, our staff still found time to raise funds for two very worthwhile charities, The National Osteoporosis Society and Friends of the Special Nursery (Aberdeen Maternity Hospital’s Neo-Natal Unit). We look forward to handing cheques over to both these charities early in 2015.
As many of you will already know, Helen Dean started baking her now famous shortbread back in 1975, which means we’ll be celebrating our 40th anniversary during 2015! We’re really looking forward to celebrating this milestone with you, so please follow us on Facebook & twitter where we’ll keep you up to speed on the various activities we’ve got planned.
Meantime we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
With very best wishes from everyone at Dean’s!
