I caught up with Scott Kelman, Commercial Director at Dean’s this week to find out how things went on his recent trip to the United States. Earlier this month, Scott travelled to Washington to support our exclusive US importer, Brands of Britain, at the Summer Fancy Food Show. Scott was happy to report a successful show with significant interest in the Dean’s brand and the range of products. Here’s what he had to say about the Show:
“Having developed a range of products and packaging specifically for the US market, the response from the many trade visitors to the Brands of Britain booth at the Show was extremely encouraging. It was also great to spend time with the Brands of Britain team and I am grateful to them for their continued enthusiasm and support for our Brand. They have already secured distribution with a number of key customers and have no doubt that our combined efforts at the Show will result in many more American consumers being able to enjoy our unique shortbread and cookies.”
The Summer Fancy Food Show is one of many trade shows organised by the National Association for the Speciality Food Trade and attracts visitors from over 80 countries. Here Scott tells us about the sheer size of the Show and the potential market in America:
“The Show is vast. It attracts over 2,400 trade exhibitors who collectively show over 180,000 products. I have visited the Summer Show on a number of occasions and it never ceases to amaze me of the scale and diversity of the products on display. It really opens your eyes to the size of the market and potential trade in America, particularly when you consider the Summer Fancy Food Show, and indeed the Winter Fancy Food Show in January, are both solely focused on the specialty food sector.
The creativity of exhibitors in setting up their stands is also incredible – I took this picture of the “Jelly Belly” stand….Wonder how many jelly beans and how long it took them to create this portrait?
We believe we have made a great start with Brands of Britain over in the past year but going to a show like Summer Fancy Food reminds you that there is still lots to be done and, together, we welcome that challenge.”
This year’s show was attended by over 25,000 trade visitors from across America and Canada, many of whom stopped by to sample Dean’s products for themselves.
We would also like to thank our US distributor, Brands of Britain who are doing a great job of spreading the Dean’s message from coast to coast.
If you’re going to America on holiday this year and you spot any Dean’s product, please don’t forget to take a picture and upload it to our Facebook Page, we love to see just how far and wide the Dean’s name is spreading.
