In 1975 Helen Dean, a keen home-baker, started making her now famous shortbread to raise funds for the Huntly pipe band where her husband Bill was Drum Major.
Her ‘melt in the mouth’ shortbread, already loved by her family and friends, proved to be so popular that Helen soon opened her own small bakery shop in the town centre to meet the demand for her delicious shortbread. As business grew Dean’s moved to a purpose built factory in 1992 followed by the opening our very popular café/bistro and visitor centre in September 2007.
We are proud however, that even though the business has grown and developed over the years, our shortbread and biscuits are still made using traditional production methods and a slow baking process – just like you would at home. This results in our unique ‘melt in the mouth’ texture for which our shortbread and biscuits are famous.
